You’re standing at the racetrack, the cars are racing past, and before you can even blink, your driver is already around the bend. The start number on the chassis? Theoretically on it, practically unreadable. <\/p>

No problem – there are two things you can look out for to keep track of your driver, and they work even at full throttle.<\/p>

Why is it so difficult to tell Formula 1 drivers apart?<\/h2>

In Formula 1, the two cars of a team look almost identical. Same color, same shape, same paint job. The starting number is on the chassis – but at speeds of 250 km\/h and more, it is simply unrecognizable. Even on TV, many things are blurred. So if you’re watching the race live, you simply need other points of reference. <\/p>

Recognize the driver by his helmet: <\/h2>

Every Formula 1 driver has an individual helmet design. No driver wears the same helmet as his teammate – the designs differ in color, pattern and graphics. If you memorize the helmet design of your favourite driver before the race, you will be able to recognize him even at high speed. A quick look at Insta, the team website or simply a quick Google search before the race is enough. The helmet only flashes up briefly – but if you know what you’re looking for, that’s enough. <\/p>

Recognize by the antenna<\/h2>

This is the part that, strangely enough, few people pay attention to, but which works most reliably. In every Formula 1 team, one of the two cars always has a neon yellow antenna and the other a black one. This means you can tell the two teammates apart at first glance – regardless of speed or camera angle. So you only have to remember once which driver in your team has the yellow antenna – and you’ll know immediately who you’re looking at every time you drive past. <\/p>

So, helmet and antenna – that’s all you need. Before the race, memorize your rider’s helmet design and remember whether he has the yellow or the dark antenna.
